  What do I mean by a Jehovah's Witness? A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes Jesus when he said his Father was greater than he was and taught that we should pray to the Father and worship the Father as Abraham and Moses worshipped him, as the only One True God. A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes Jesus died for our sins, that he is the true representation of his Father and that he is the image of the God who is the epitome of love. A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes that the holy spirit is the power of God. A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes that we are living in times peculiar to our age. A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes that Jehovah has set a limit to the time he has given to men that they may do as they please on earth. A Jehovah's Witness is a Christian who believes the earth will be preserved and that mankind will live their lives to the full on it, whether they are resurrected or live through the times of trouble to come. A Jehovah's Witness is a religious Jew who follows the Christ.

  Yes, I preach. Using only the Bible I preach and I am a witness to Jehovah God and Christ's Kingdom, the value of the Bible and the teachings of Christ. I do not conduct Bible studies nor do I go on return visits. As I said I am no longer a member of the Watchtower Society, I do not use their literature in field service, only at meetings.

  Is there a Christian faith that does not believe it is descended from the early Christians in some fashion? All Christian faiths claim to be a true representation of Christianity. Some claim to be the only true faith others have a more open mind but they all claim to be following Christ and his teachings.

  I agree Gayle. I am against the shunning policy, I am also against putting friends out for merely disagreeing with the Governing Body. All those who have left, left for their own good reasons.

  Ahhh the Lone Ranger...I remember those days. I spent many years playing that part in the Watchtower as many brothers and sisters have as well.

  Why do I remain? Let me first pose a question, is there any major religion that has never caused harm to anyone? Do governments cause harm at times? Do multinational corporations always do good? Are there large institutions that can claim the honor of never causing harm to anyone?

  The problem is not religion or government etc, but actually mankind. Every religion is subject to the stupidity and the calamity that its leaders can cause or instigate. This is also true of all governments, all corporations, and all institutions.

  Many Americans disagreed with President Bush when he sent young soldiers to Iraq and caused the deaths of thousands there for what many in the U.S. thought was an unlawful war. How many of those Americans left the U.S. over this? How many American parents who thought the war unlawful and who lost a son or daughter left the U.S. over it? The reasons are legion for not leaving I suppose. So are the reasons for remaining with the Witnesses. How many Americans are leaving the U.S. over the recent problems and the political stupidity that is occurring? How many Americans are leaving the U.S. because they see that their leaders are not always honest or even worthy of respect? They stay because they love and appreciate that this country is not only their home but that for all the problems it is still based on those principles they know are good and worthwhile.

  I agree with most of the teachings in my faith. Most of those teachings cannot be found outside of the Witness faith. I know the leadership is faulty. I know they are just as faulty as many of the leaders of ancient Israel were, as many older Christian men of the first century were and as many leaders of the U.S. are. This is human, this is mankind. There is no leadership without fault, a sad but true reality.

  Can I not disagree with my leaders while also loving my faith? Can I not feel that blood transfusions should be left to conscience and that shunning is unscriptural while also remaining in my faith? Jesus remained in his faith though he knew the wrongs. The wrongs are caused by men, men do not make our faith itself wrong. They only prove themselves wrong! We are each free to live according to our conscience. Whether we chose to remain or to leave we do what in our hearts we believe is right. There is no charge against such.

  The two witness rule on child abuse still makes my blood boil

  today while i was working i remembered a wt on there having to be two witness to a person who comes forward later in life saying he had been molested as a chld and i was thinking no it really could not have been to blatant like i remembered it.

  sadly i did find it and no i remembered it right.

  it to me is sick!

  Common sense dictates that violent crimes committed by a member of the congregation should be reported to the police. If the Governing Body were to put in place this rule it would not only save much heartache but also remove from the elders responsibilities they are not trained to handle. That I recall there is no reference in the Greek Scriptures that addresses how violent acts within the congregation should be handled. In Jesus' day Caesar's soldiers kept order, today the police.

  As for community standing, better for the community to know that Jehovah's Witnesses report charges of child abuse leaving the courts to handle the matter than for the community to hear that Witnesses protect child abusers.

  It appears that they are likely getting ready to do away with the QFR section. If the publishers are being encouraged not to send in questions then the QFR section has no purpose. Of course the reality is that the question box was more often than not used by the Watchtower writers themselves to get a point across.

  The quality of writing has without a doubt much degraded. It is no surprise, then, that a flood of hard to answer questions would pose a challenge to an organization that has difficulty putting together well written and researched articles on the simplest of topics. All Witnesses, my brothers and sisters, should ask themselves why Jehovah has allowed the writing department to degrade so badly. There are two kinds of spirit involved in a religious life; Jehovah's spirit and the individual's own spirit, his own motivating desire to dig deeper into God's word. But he must be free do so. Frederick Franz had that freedom, he had a personal motivation to dig into scripture, to move forward, to enjoy whatever fruits he himself sought. But it seems that today the writers have little to no freedom and therefore motivation, no one who may have the desire to move forward is allowed to do so. Therefore the material is continually repeated and repackaged per the directions of the Governing Body. If the Governing Body were able to move forward they would but not having that ability themselves they are reluctant to allow others at Bethel to do so in their name.

  Inertia is the word of the day, they are waiting for something but I don't believe they have faith they will receive it- ironic.

  Hello Leavingwt,

  I am in my 70s. I have no direct line to Jehovah in that he speaks to me of things not even Jesus spoke of. I don't know when Armageddon will come. Furthermore the timing of Armageddon has no relevance in my life. What is important is whether or not I love my Father and my brother. All other things I leave in Jehovah's hands. The Governing Body causes a stumbling with Armageddon. Do we love Jehovah and our brother and preach the Kingdom because we are in fear of death or because we love? Death comes and it goes. Life remains and it remains with God and all who love.

  splane said this starting at 14:16, "he (russell) could never reconcile the teaching of eternal torment with the description of the bible of a loving god.

  as he examined the creeds of the great churches when he saw that they taught that the wicked are tormented eternally, why, he just could not accept that.

  There is no Raymond Franz on the Governing Body. I do not have enough personal knowledge to say otherwise. That does not mean though that all on the Governing Body are without common sense. Those that do must prevail or our young ones are lost.

  The Governing Body feeds on not only themselves but also on others at Bethel. I agree with Br. Dunlap's assessment for his day and mine as well. But this is not our day, his and mine, any longer, this is your day and the day of all young Jehovah's Witnesses. The present Governing Body when compared with that which just passed with Br. Barr's death this past December, is relatively young. They know that those of my generation are not at all happy with the lack of movement forward. The Generation teaching is in shambles and there is no shame in saying they don't know. Even Jesus admitted to not knowing all things. Honesty is needed. A better understanding of that teaching is needed. Or at the very least, an admission that only Jehovah knows exactly who and when that generation represents. Fresh air is needed, true trust in Jehovah is needed and not on ourselves or on those who came before.

  I hope for the younger generation of Witnesses who have been exposed to things unheard of in my day and yet continue on.
